Initial Matilda Info!!!!!
Hi all!
Hope you're all having wonderful summers and hope to see many of you for the Draper Day Parade tomorrow! Please read through this post for some initial info regarding Matilda auditions :)
1. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, September 4th and Thursday, September 5th in the PAC. You will need to sign up for an audition time and complete the required paperwork that will be in the audition packet. Sign-ups and the audition packets will be up and available by Friday, Aug. 23. Callbacks will be held, by invitation, on Friday, September 6th in the PAC.
2. There will be an audition workshop on Tuesday, September 3rd from 2:30 - 5 pm in the PAC. Anyone planning to audition for Matilda is strongly encouraged to attend, but attendance is not required to audition.
3. For your audition on 9/4 or 9/5, please prepare 30 seconds of a song in the style of the show. There are a number of resources online, including articles and playlists, to help you find an audition piece. Need some extra support? Check out the slideshow linked HERE that I use each semester in Theatre 1. (If you're in Theatre 1 this fall, we will explore this lesson together within the first several classes!)
4. NEW THIS YEAR!!! For your audition on 9/4 or 9/5, you will sing with a karaoke track - you will NOT be singing with live accompaniment. We will provide a speaker and cables, but if you'd like to use your own portable speaker you are welcome to. You can find a karaoke track on youtube or use a variety of paid/subscription resources, like appcompanist. You MUST have an accompaniment/karaoke track for your audition - you will not be allowed to sing a cappella (without backing music).
5. If you are invited to callbacks, you will sing selections from Matilda with an accompanist.
6. We will perform Matilda with the British dialects used in the Broadway and touring productions. Dialects aren't required for auditions - but are welcome! Those invited to callbacks will be asked to use British dialects.
7. Miss Trunchbull and many of the supporting/featured roles are available to be played by actors of any gender.
8. We will utilize character work and costumes to differentiate between adult characters, older student characters, and younger student characters. Casting for the roles in our production is not dependent on an actor's physicality, but rather on how they demonstrate their ability to portray specific characters. As you're preparing your audition pieces, go for the character you'd love to play. Your acting is what tells the story!!
If you have specific questions, you can email me at lindsey.cline@canyonsdistrict.org and I will do my best to respond to you within a 24-48 hour window :)
