Shakespeare and Musical Reminder- payments and forms!

 Hey all!

A reminder that payments for the Shakespeare trip and Musical fees are due on September 14th by 2:45pm. If you have fundraiser cards and money to turn in, do so before that time and bring the sales card and receipt to Miss Struiksma in the Little Theatre. She will go over adding the money to your account and letting you know if you still owe anything. Otherwise, if it is not using fundraiser money, please put receipts into the receipt basket on the call-board.

Another reminder if you are going on the Shakespeare trip ALL paperwork (notarized medical form AND a copy of your insurance card) are due to Struiks that same day. There is a link to the medical form below that you can print if needed. You have a week, but we would love to see things come in earlier throughout this week. Thank you!!!

-Struiks

P.S. Billy Shakes team (Shakespeare), remember to bring blacks to rehearsal at 2:45pm sharp on Wednesday! :)

White Christmas Rehearsal Calendar and info!

 Hi all,

HERE is a link to the White Christmas rehearsal calendar.  You'll see a full outline of rehearsal days and times as well as specific rehearsal details for this week and next.  I'll get all the rest of the details in this calendar by the beginning of next week :)

A couple other reminders/general notes:

Music rehearsals are in Miss G's room (the choir room) unless otherwise specified on the calendar

Blocking and Dance rehearsals are in the PAC unless otherwise specified on the calendar

Please pay close attention to start and ending times - they shift sometimes

$60 fee must be paid in the office by Sept. 14th.  After you pay in the office, pls have them print you a receipt and turn that in on the callboard in the Little Theatre.  If you have questions or concerns about this, please feel free to chat with me before school any day between now and Sept. 12th.

Make sure you are checking the remind every day and the blog and instagram every couple days so you don't miss any important info.

If you are sick and going to miss rehearsal unexpectedly, a parent/guardian must email me by NOON at the latest for your absence to be considered "excused."  Unexcused absences may result in being dropped from scenes/numbers or even the show.

If you had an excused absence for our first meeting - make sure you fill out your information in the Google Sheet linked HERE.

As we talked about in our first meeting, your character work is also due by Sept.14 with responses to the questions emailed to me (lindsey.cline@csddocs.org) and collages turned in physically.

Questions:

What is your character's full name?

How old are they?

Tell me about their family - who are immediate family? Are they close? Do they live near each other?

Who is their best friend? Describe them.

Are they involved romantically with anyone?  If so, describe them.

What is their favorite food and movie? (Keep in mind that the majority of the show takes place in 1954 - do some detective work!!)

White Christmas Audition Packets and Info!!!

 Hi all,

I'm so excited to get our theatre season started here in the next couple weeks!  Below are some links and info regarding our musical, White Christmas!

1. HERE is the link to the Audition Packet - I know the packet is long but please, PLEASE take your time reading through it!  There is a lot of important information that I've worked hard to communicate so that you know what to expect and have a successful audition.

You'll need to fill out and bring pages 8 - 11 of the audition packet with you to your audition, along with your grades from last semester.

2. The link and QR code to sign up for auditions is in the packet, or you find it HERE.  This year, we are adding something called "Ensemble Auditions."  They are explained in the packet.  PLEASE read the packet before signing up for an audition.  If you have questions, please email me at lindsey.cline@canyonsdistrict.org or ask me in person next week :)

3. If you'd like to apply for Assistant Director, please fill out the 2nd page of the application HERE and add it to your audition packet.

Hard copies of the audition packets and AD applications will be available the first week of school.

Reminder that there will be a MANDATORY parent/guardian meeting for everyone interested in auditioning for Shakespeare and/or White Christmas on Wednesday, Aug. 19th at 6 pm in the PAC.  If you have concerns about this date, talk to me or Struiks ASAP!

Thanks and looking forward to seeing you all!

Senior Theatre Students 2026-2027: Unified Auditions Date

Hey Seniors!

If you are planning to audition for college theatre programs in Utah or some of the surrounding states, there is a Unified Audition on October 17th where lots of reps from numerous universities will be present.  This could be for a minor or major acting or musical theatre focus. It's a great way to not have to do a TON of different auditions and just do one day of presenting your work.  Registration goes live mid-August, but we were sent the info now and I wanted to pass it along.

More info is at the website below, but if you're considering it, I would look into this Audition Day:

Summer Tap Workshop Days!

 Hi everyone,

I hope that your summers are off to a great start and I hope that you're already starting to get excited about White Christmas like I am!

Like I mentioned at banquet, this is a heavier dance show that involves tapping!!! (Yes, 3 exclamation points are necessary bc that's how excited I am!!!)

To help prep for this - and because I'm too excited to wait until fall to see you - we are going to have several tap workshop days over the summer.

I'm designing these tap workshops to benefit all levels of tappers:  Already know a decent amount of tap?  Awesome, come play and let me help you clean up your sounds and teach your some steps and tricks that I'm hoping to choreograph into the show!  Have literally never tapped or thought about tap in your life?  Also awesome - I'll be teaching basics from the very beginning so you can learn a new skill and feel confident for auditions!

What should I bring/wear?

- Workout clothes and sneakers - if you know me you know that we will start with stretching and conditioning while blasting iconic 2000's hits.

- Tap or hard soled shoes:  HERE is a link to an affordable pair of tap shoes if you'd like to purchase them.  However, you do NOT have to have tap shoes to attend and learn the basics of tap.  Any hard soled shoe, like a character shoe works great!  The hard sole instead of a rubberized sole is prefered to help keep your feet and ankles safe.  You don't want your foot getting stuck when you are moving it to create sounds and rhythms.

- Water/a water bottle

Where will these workshops be held?

- The PAC (Alta's Performing Arts Center)

When are the workshop days?

- They will be held on Tuesday June 23rd, Tuesday July 14th, and Tuesday July 28th from 9:00 - 11:00 am.  I may try to sneak one more in in August - tbd on that one.

Who is invited?

- All returning Alta students, incoming Alta freshmen, and recent Alta graduates!  It's likely that tap will be part of the dance audition for White Christmas, so anyone planning to audition for the musical should come out if they're able!

Feel free to email me with questions at lindsey.cline@canyonsdistrict.org.  I try to check my email at least once a week over summer, so please know that my response may be a little delayed.

Appreciate y'all and very excited to see you!

-Cline

Please go claim FREE tickets this week!

Hey all!

I got a call from the head of the High School Musical Theatre Awards, Michael Ballam, today and he said they are in danger of being shut down if more people don’t claim tickets to their shows and demonstrate interest. Tickets are free so even if students claim them and then end up needing to cancel or don’t go, the numbers will be where is needed to keep funding and kids won’t be out anything. Our specific area is one that is low on attendance numbers. I have a QR code below to check out shows and grab free tickets:

Please go and claim tickets THIS week (even if they end up not using them). It sounds weird, but I get the logic. I would LOVE to have students and families attend, so I also strongly encourage y’all to road trip to Logan this summer and see some great work. :)

Alta High School's Theatre Department: Our 2026-2027 Season!

Our Annual Night of Shakespeare will show off our hard work as we prepare to attend the National Shakespeare Competition in Cedar City, Utah from October 1st-3rd, 2026!
We will have four amazing duo/trio scenes and five monologues to share, as well as our incredible 10-minute Ensemble Scene from Macbeth; directed by Linze Struiksma and Lyndsey McKinnon.
AUDITIONS for Ensemble Scene: August 20th, 2026
*You will need a one-minute Shakespearian Monologue for auditions.

There is a MANDATORY parent/guardian meeting on August 19th at 6pm for anyone auditioning for Shakespeare (or going on the trip) OR auditioning for Musical.
If you want to audition, a parent or guardian needs to be present at that meeting!

This coming year's musical will be Irving Berlin's White Christmas! This delightful story will include some incredible focus on choreography and even include some jump-roping tap dance. There will be some summer tap classes offered (completely optional) and more will be posted about these in a few weeks.
This show will be directed by Lindsey Cline (Assistant Director to be chosen at auditions).
AUDITIONS: August 26th and 27th, 2026
*You will need a 30-60 second cutting to sing from a Musical Theatre song (from a musical) and will then complete a dance call that same evening.

Alta Theatre's Annual Fundraiser Night will continue on with our Murder Mystery Dinner.  Two times for dinner will be offered (5:00pm and 7:30pm) and you will not want to miss this show!  The theme will be announced on November 24th with casting announcements, but trust me... it's gonna be amazing.
Directed and Created by Addilyn Covington (Assistant to be announced at auditions)
AUDITIONS: November 24th, 2026
*You will sign up for an audition time and come play 5-10 minutes of Improv Games to analyze those skills. Watch for Improv Club dates to be trained ahead of time!

Antigone is the quintessential and epic story from Sophocles about the power of using one's voice for the things they believe in. We will be performing a brand new adaption of the play and using shadow work along with other powerful ways of story-telling! A condensed version of this piece will ALSO be used as the Region/State One-Act to compete on March 18th and then April 15th or 16th,
This show will be directed by Linze Struiksma (Assistant Director to be chosen at auditions).
AUDITIONS: December 15th, 2026
*You will need a one-minute modern Monologue for auditions.

REGION AND STATE IE AUDITIONS: These will also be on December 15th, 2026 and more information will be posted about these the beginning of November 2026. You MAY use the same monologue for R&S auditions as for Antigone auditions. These are six categories you will be considered for with Region/State Competition: Pantomime, Contemporary Scenes, Classical Scenes, Humorous Monologues, Dramatic Monologues, and Musical Theatre.
*If you want to be considered for the Musical Theatre Category you will need 30-60 seconds of a musical theatre piece and the on-minute monologue.
Competition Dates are March 18th, 2027 for Region and April 17th, 2027 for State.

One of our favorite Alta Theatre traditions is our yearly Student Directed One-Acts, also called SDOAs. These are ten-minute mini-shows chosen in March by those who are directing. Our student directors are from our Theatre IV class and are chosen through an application process and announced the beginning of Spring Break.
AUDITIONS: April 19th, 2027
*You will need a one-minute modern Monologue for auditions.

COME ENJOY OUR INCREDIBLE SEASON NEXT YEAR!

**Other ways to be involved are Drama Club and Improv Club (both monthly) and dates will be released on here and our Social Media (Instagram) the beginning of August.

Shakespeare IE Auditions 2026!

Hello all!

Shakespeare IE (Individual Event) auditions for next year's team are approaching in the next few weeks! These will be held on May 19th in the Little Theatre. Packets are now available and on the callboard in the Little Theatre as is the audition sign-up sheet. It is just inside the East Side doors.

Please read through the packet carefully for important information.  A couple key items are below:

1. Fill out and bring pages 5 and 9 of the packet with you to auditions, as well as your grades from spring semester.

2. Please prepare a one minute Shakespeare monologue or a two minute Shakespeare scene with 1-2 partners.  I encourage you to find your own piece that you are excited to work on, but there are two monologue options that you are welcome to use for your audition piece on the last pages of the audition packet.  Additionally, I prefer to see a memorized audition, BUT, if you need to use your script (especially if this is your first time working with Shakespeare text) then that is okay!  Ultimately, I want you to have a fun, successful audition and that you feel proud of yourself.

3. For those cast with an IE piece, there will be a mandatory meeting from 2:45 - 3:45 pm in the Little Theatre on May 20th (the day after auditions).

You can access a digital copy of the audition packet HERE.  If you have questions, feel free to email me (linze.struiksma@canyonsdistrict.org) or stop by the Little Theatre after school.

I'm so excited for Shakespeare Competition and hope to see you at auditions!

**Ensemble scene auditions will be held at the beginning of the next school year and more info can be found here the first week of August.

Theatre Council 2026-2027

A huge thank you to all who applied for Theatre Council for the 2026-2027! There were so many great ideas and applications submitted, and you made this an extremely hard decision. I ask that all members of the Alta Theatre Family support their peers in our decision.  If you did not make it onto council this time, please know you are still amazing and a lot of great candidates applied.  If you would like more direct feedback on what to work on in the future, please feel free to email Struiks or Cline next week, starting Monday.

Listed below is the Theatre Council list for the 2026-2027 school year:

President: Hallee Wasden

Vice President: Izzy Ragonese

Secretary: Emiline Johnson

Historian: Jett Smith

Publicity: Mya Didericksen

Financial Chair: Ario Baghai

Improv Captain: Addi Covington

Sophomore Rep: Bryce Campbell

Congrats to our new theatre council! For all new AND old council members, there will be a banquet planning meeting Friday, May 1st from 2:30-3:30pm in the Little Theatre! This will directly follow the Drama Club Activity.  Additionally, all NEW council members (and returning) need to be in the Little Theatre for ADVISORY TOMORROW at 9:10am to be measured for sweaters so we can get those sent off to assure a return date in August. If you are a returning member, BRING YOUR SWEATER TOMORROW! I will have Hallee Wasden reach out and make a group chat for the new council members to send reminders.  We will have one other meeting before school gets out this year, so when she messages, please promptly respond. Thank you all and I love you (appropriately)! :)
