Callback Zoom Link

Here is the link for today's callback zoom:

https://zoom.us/j/97325790912?pwd=YUZQM1lQaitRQUtMVUJNRnVJRVVkdz09

Ladies, remember to please logon a few minutes early and you'll be first at 10am.  I am splitting up people as needed because less people on a call sometimes means better quality.  I would prefer the gentlemen wait to jump on until a moment before 10:25am.

Remember for callbacks you do NOT need to be memorized, so feel free to pull up lyrics as needed.  I just want to hear you do your best and still see you try and act through it as much as you can.  Give me fun facial expressions and gestures.... show me the character!

Figuring out this whole zoom callback was interesting, but I'm actually really excited!  My biggest advice?  HAVE FUN!  You always do better when you breathe and have fun with it all!

Little Mermaid Callback List

I apologize for the delay - LOTS of dance videos to watch! :)

A HUGE thank you to everyone who took the time to audition this year. An important thing to recognize is that this year is vastly different than those of the past, meaning callbacks will be as well. Callbacks will take place tomorrow morning at 10am-11:30am. I anticipate we may get done early. I am NOT calling back people whom I have already cast, so if you do not see your name below that does not mean you are not in the final cast. I simply already know where I would like to place some people and so I only need to hear from a select few.

Also different this year is that I am telling people what to prepare to sing/read for… I have told you ahead where you may be considered so you prepare for that and don’t prepare what’s not needed. Please respect that there are reasons I have some people singing for some parts and some people singing for others. Find the PLACE or PLACES your name is listed and prepare for that part/those parts only. The links you will need are below… there are numerous for some characters so look through ALL of them! I will post the Zoom Meeting address on here in the morning at about 9:45am. Warm up before then and be prepared to sing right away – we will not to warm-ups together. We will sing and I will have you read IF needed.

LADIES: You need to be on by 10am sharp or before.
MEN: You need to be logging on by 10:25am sharp or a little before.

Those who are not on the callback list, to ensure a steady zoom session and minimal distractions this year, we are doing a closed callback and not inviting others to watch – thank you for your consideration in this matter.  For those not on this list, look for the FINAL CAST LIST tomorrow afternoon!

Little Mermaid Auditions - Zoom Address WEDNESDAY

Here is the link for today's zoom meeting: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/75477455781?pwd=aTZQN1IwR0F6TXFoVFU4VmlrNWZIZz09

Please copy and paste that address in and login 5 minutes early.  When you login it will place you in a waiting room.  When it is time for your audition I will grant you access from that waiting room.  Be SURE you have sent me ALL of your paperwork and a screenshot of your grades before the audition.

My big advice for today?  HAVE FUN!  You all always do better when you breathe and have a good time performing - that's why we do it. :)  Now, go break legs!

Not literally, please.  You will still have to do the dance audition and submit it to me today or tomorrow morning.  The dance link and instructions to submit it are in the previous entry!

Little Mermaid Dance Instruction Video for Auditions

Alright, folks - we have here some amazing dance choreography for you to learn!  I want to take a moment and introduce this year's choreographer.  Our choreographer will be Alisa Horrocks!  We had to switch things up this year because of scheduling, but I could not be more excited.  Alisa comes to us with over 19 years of experience as well as past choreography experience.  She has worked with youth your age and even use to help run drill AT Alta.  She's a great asset to our production team and I am SO grateful she has agreed to choreograph for us.  Also, the dance she created for Under the Sea is SO fun!

There are three links below.  This first is just a video of the dance - this is what you should look like when we watch your video, or as close to it.  It's just a front facing video and that's what we want to see when you submit your video as we need to see facial expressions when you dance.

Under the Sea Front View Dance

This second link is a view of the dance from behind as if you were watching it from behind to help you dance along to once you have learned the dance.

Under the Sea Back View Dance

The third link is the choreography breakdown.  This is the video that will describe what steps are a part of the dance and actually TEACH you the dance itself.  Watch this again and again as needed till you feel secure in the dance moves!

Under the Sea Choreography Breakdown Video

When you are finally ready to submit your video you will need to film your video in a way that we can see your whole body and face.  Be big with your movements and have confidence!  When you have your video ready you MUST upload it to YouTube as an UNLISTED video and email me the link.  Do this in PLENTY of time because any videos that are late will NOT be counted - no exceptions. I have WAY too many to watch to make exceptions.  My email is: linze.struiksma@canyonsdistrict.org - they are due by 5pm on Thursday, but I would PERFER them by 2pm if possible.  Please put your name and LITTLE MERMAID DANCE VIDEO in the subject line.  Thank you and happy dancing!

Little Mermaid Auditions MOVED ONLINE!!!

LITTLE MERMAID AUDITIONS WILL BE MOVED TO AN ONLINE PLATFORM!!!

We are officially online next week and, therefore, we will be continuing with auditions, but with an online format for these auditions. Each person will logon to a Zoom Meet (link posted on the blog the morning of auditions) about five minutes before your audition time, where you will wait until let in for your audition. You will need to find a backing track or instrumental online for your audition – this will take a bit of work on your part, but it totally doable. When it is your chance to audition, you will introduce yourself by saying your name, the name of your song, and what show your song is from. Then you will sing your 16-20 bars of the song (about 30 seconds) and when finished say “Thank You,” so we know you are done. We will ask you a question or two and then you are done with the singing audition. The only other part is submitting your dance video and paperwork.

• To submit your dance video, please learn the dance that will be posted on the blog on Tuesday evening in full and PRACTICE.
• Film yourself doing the dance where we can see your whole body and face and then upload the video to YouTube as an unlisted video. Send the link to this address ON TIME: linze.struiksma@canyonsdistrict.org
• ALSO, you can scan paperwork to send to me, take pictures and upload them, OR (preferred) type out the information IN FULL and send it to me. The only one that MUST be scanned or a picture is the permission form.

You must attend the singing part of the audition, submit paperwork, AND submit the dance video in order to be considered for a role.

If you can PLEASE answer this question in the "dance experience" section, that would be great: Do you have ANY tap experience?  If not, are you genuinely willing to put in the extra time to learn tap?

Theatre 4 and Theatre 3 I will open up a google doc for you all specifically to claim a spot since that time was blocked off for you – Starting on Saturday afternoon I will open up the extra spots to anyone, so please claim your time on Friday!

ALSO, there WILL be a workshop/forum on Monday from 3-3:30pm on this google meet address:

This is NOT the audition link - just the workshop link!

I have found the link does not always work on phones and works better with copy/pasted in.  It is not mandatory, but an option to get centered before auditions.  Remember, I am ROOTING for each of you!  You've got this - can't wait to see!!!

Little Mermaid Auditions 2020

Hey All!

I know the last few weeks have been a whirlwind of information and changes.  Though I can not guarantee more changes aren't to come, I can do my best to communicate as clearly as I am able in the upcoming weeks about auditions.  Please be patient with me as changes may arise at any moment and PLEASE check the blog regularly as this will be my main source of communication (outside of word of mouth) through the Little Mermaid audition process.

Hoping to make this as easy as possible, I have created a packet for you all, just as in the past.  I have added a few new rules and regulations, including mask and sanitation rules, hang-outs outside of rehearsal rules, online rehearsal expectations and more. PLEASE read it thoroughly before signing so you KNOW what you are promising to before your audition.  This is not the year for drops after casting.

Below is the Little Mermaid audition packet AND the link to sign-up for a time for your audition.  These auditions MUST take place during school per the new mandate, so work around lunches and free periods, and choose a time that works for you.  I will adhere closely to the timeline this audition to the best of my ability.  If you are in a class with me on Tuesday, November 17th or Wednesday, November 18th, I ask that you use class-time to audition.  If you are a TA, please use your ACTING class time to audition.  There will be a pianist present for your audition and no tracks or accapella are acceptable, as the packet states.  Therefore, come with sheet music of your song printed and have CLEARLY marked your start and stop points.

Please come to your audition with the permission slip, audition sheet, conflict sheet, and parent volunteer sheet signed and completed - no exceptions.  You MUST also, come with a copy of your grades printed out to the audition - again, NO exceptions.  Assistant Director (AD) applications can be turned in early, but the other things I ask you give me at your scheduled audition time.  Please download the packet below (hopefully it transferred to google docs from word in an okay format...), complete it, and then click the link at the bottom to sign-up for an audition time-slot.  You cannot edit on the google doc - you must download and complete.

If you are in quarantine next week your singing and dance audition videos MUST be filmed and uploaded to YouTube as a private link.  Those links must be emailed to me at linze.struiksma@canyonsdistrict.org by 5pm on Thursday, November 19th.  You must also email me scans or pictures of your audition sheets, conflict sheet, permission slips, parent volunteer form, and grades.  If they are late for any reason, they will NOT be accepted, so do not leave them till the last minute to do and upload - in fact, if I COULD get them by that morning, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
