Meta Rehearsal Notes

 Meta Notes - Saturday 2/8

Kalyee- keep pencil skirt; this works! Can you shake the jar before the words chaos?

Shelby- keep lines facing out at the top, or turn more when talking to Aubree

Ethan- keep emphasis on still EACH time

“daddy do you want to play”- just that line on that entrance, Kailyn. That’s all there’s time for!

- Fugure out which is right; country vs continent Kason and Ethan

Kate - standout for character and projection; nailing it each time. I love the walk off in time with Midas too!

Ethan, more excitement on face over gold items each time you see a change.

Cline- grab safety pins for backstage!

Cara, watch holding arms up the whole time… it’s a nerves twinge, but start having awareness around it.

Slow the line every reluctant breath

Sea fabric narrators- practice black fabric three times before the Monday run!

Cara- wake up when ding happens!

Nate- great projection! Now, play more with vocal variations

WE LOVE MADDY AND LEAH!!! Great relationship!

Cara- great reactions at the end to the scene when they’re describing what happened to you guys.

Walk out creepy and not marching out- hunger cold fear

Ainsley- more desperation and need in body when selling mom

Can the narrators pre-place lyre for Taylor in that transition before Orpheus?

Chloe- subtle emotional reaction to turn… give me more on face or turn ghostlike… either way.

Kason- make the clothing throws higher up to let us see

Struiks- add orange to erysichthon and add pink to baucis and philemon

NIV AND LAYNA AMAZING!!!! We thought the fall was amazing, and so was the spin!

Niv- great reaction to candle wax

Cline- dress elastic on Monday for Ainsley- Ainsley give dress to Cline on Monday at top of rehearsal.

Cast- great reactions in pool! Better timing too, so let’s keep that cue.

Narrators- keep practicing the lights off together. Love the vision.

Thank you for a great day, y’all! I thought there was a way to like this, but… I’m not able to figure it out. So… Happy Saturday!

MEAN GIRLS: Reminders and Announcements

"Mean Girls" season is upon us!  We are at the point where things begin to be full steam ahead and we could not be more excited.  PLEASE READ THE WHOLE MESSAGE.  A few reminders and things to know:

1) Tomorrow, grade checks are due.  PRINT your grades and bring them to rehearsal after school tomorrow - if you are missing rehearsal bring them earlier or by the next day. You will fold them in half, hand them to Addi and she will give them to me once all collected.  No exceptions - I need to check everyone.

2) If you have ANY donations - clothing, accessories, props - we need them ASAP!  I have some parents coming tomorrow to help sort through whatever we get so we can begin costuming and filling in the gaps. Please bring donations TOMORROW!  Anything that time period helps!

3) If you are on this list below, our costume team would like to see you after school ON OCTOBER 10TH for a little mini-fitting at 2:45-3:45pm in the Green Room of the PAC; they might not need you the whole time, but please stop by for what you can: Abby Carpenter, Leah Memmott, Emma Sweat, Hallee Wasden, Kason Seamans, Ethan Regan, Niv Raz, Jakob Payne, Kennadee Hewlett, Aubree Hewlett, Madelynn Chatwin, Xylia Stennet Luke, Christian Holyfield, Izzy Walbeck, and Connor Lyon.  If this is NOT possible, send me an email. Please bring your jeans, shoes, and any costume pieces you want to use that you already own.

Remember, EVERYONE ELSE will me checking off with Tamara the next day during rehearsal.  You need all of your pieces too with you on Wednesday OR a picture of you wearing them - not just the pieces.  A picture of you wearing them.

4) This is the week to start having really clean dances and songs, so prepare to be tested as needed - you know what practice you need so be solid on your parts! Dance and songs checks are bound to happen!

5) The #pinkwednesdayalta contest begins this week!  Please spread the word around and repost when it is put up on Instagram.  We want to start really getting people aware of the show and gearing up for the incredible run.  Wear Pink on Wednesdays and you should enter too!!!

6) Lastly, I will be reaching out to people this week to be our "Stupid with Love" dancers for next week - if you are not free on the 17th, please do not accept the role. :) I want to highlight people as much as we can, but also need you there on those rehearsal days. So excited - it's going to be a fun week!

P.S. Drama Club in Wednesday - it's a costume contest and halloween bash from 2:45-3:45pm; all are welcome and we'd love to have you there.  Join Drama Club!

Region/State 2023 Team Information

 Hey Hawks!

We are coming up on the time to cast our Region/State team for this year's competition. This is a chance to compete in a category below and win awards, scholarships, and recognition.  We are the 5 time reigning champions in this Region, so let's keep it going!  In case you are interested, the following categories are open for spots on team:

 - Musical Theatre (2-6 minutes)

 - Classical Scenes (Before 1900 and 3-6 minutes)

 - Contemporary Scenes (After 1901 and 3-6 minutes)

 - Dramatic Monologues (2-6 minutes)

 - Comedic Monologues (2-6 minutes)

 - Pantomime (2-6 minutes)

We need four at least in each category.  If we have over that many strong people audition in a category, we may over-cast and do a challenge round the first week of March for our final competitors list. As a heads up, I KNOW right now we don't have enough in the Pantomime category on the Interest Sheet we passed around in classes. We will have an initial audition on January 26th after school to cast our rehearsal team - you should prepare your intended piece and then we will work after.  It doesn't need to be perfect, but prepared and solid for an audition. You are welcome to stay any day after school the next two weeks until 5pm to practice as needed or use advisory time.  If we don't have enough in a certain category, we may talk to you about switching to a new category - we HAVE to have a full team to win region and take state!

There will be a mandatory 15 minute meeting on January 27th right after school 12:30pm in the Green Room of the PAC to talk over coach assignments, hand out permission slips, and deadlines for things.

After casting, rehearsals in February will be fairly independent.  You will be assigned "coaches" to help clean your piece and workshop with you and must work with them at least 3-4 times in February - otherwise, you will schedule your own times to practice, but we will be here almost every day after school to open the building.  In March, you will begin to work with Struiksma and Cline - we will have a sheet on the call-board where you can signup for a time to work with us. You will be required to come to three team days in March, dates TBD.  Then, we will compete on March 23rd at Alta High from 2:30-8:30pm.  If you make it onto state, which we WILL help you do, you will compete at Viewmont High School in Bountiful all day on April 15th. We will provide a bus for transportation. YOU MUST be available for region and state competition dates - no exceptions!

If you have further questions, please email Miss Struiksma or Miss Cline and we will get back to you within 48 hours with a response. If you wish to audition, let us know in advance and we will assign you and audition time based on class and needs. Thank you and break legs!

Tech Week Info & Reminders

Hi everyone, please find some tech week info and reminders below!

1. Everyone should be rehearsing in their show shoes beginning tomorrow.  Shoes can either be left in the dressing room or brought to every rehearsal from Tuesday, 11/1, until closing night.

2. Please bring your base layer for your costume on Wednesday, 11/2.

3. Thursday, 11/3, will be a short rehearsal from 3:50-5:30 pm.  You will be going through a final music review with Ms. Iund in her room.  Please make sure that your rides know that this rehearsal will end at 5:30 pm, not at 9 pm.  You will not eat dinner at rehearsal this night.

4. Lastly, please make sure that you're checking the Remind at least once a day.  As we get closer to performances, more info and reminders are likely to be sent out.

State 2022 Team

 Hey Team!

I wanted to touch base about the schedule for State Rehearsals.  Those involved with Ballyhoo have already received a calendar for State from Miss Cline in email - PLEASE actors and technicians, be on top of those dates and times so we can really be successful with State!  Our plan is we will head out VERY early on April 21st for competition, so be prepared to miss school that day.

We will not begin any rehearsals until after Spring Break for IEs.  I would greatly encourage you to run your piece or your PART of your piece at least twice over break, but official rehearsal days will not take place until we return.  Days I am encouraging you to be there for IE rehearsal from 2:30-4:30pm are April 12th, 14th, and 19th.  Everyone is REQUIRED to come for day before things and out final team day from 12pm-2pm on the virtual Friday, April 22nd.   We NEED you there and there on time that day for all our announcements and final runs - please bring all props and costume pieces from home that day.

We will head to compete with IEs on Satursday, April 23rd at 7:30am SHARP.  We will have everyone there by 7:20am, load the bus, and pull out at 7:30am to head to Viewmont High School in Bountiful.  Plan to be there ALL day and get back between 4-5pm. I will have more specific details AFTER Spring Break, but don't get them until the 12th.

Let's put our whole hearts into our pieces for just a FEW more weeks and really BRING IT at State!  We can do this - have fun and get well rested over Spring Break, y'all! :)

Region Team 2022

A huge thank you to all who auditioned for team!

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE BELOW!

This is our initial team, with challenge rounds scheduled to take place on March 3rd, 2022.  If on the list below, please get prepared to perform at challenge rounds regardless of the amount in each category.  If I have you and your partner in class I MAY pull you during class to watch you that week.  If I do NOT have you and your partner in class together, you WILL complete your challenge round entry on March 3rd after school.  This is a check-in to make sure you are ready and prepared fully to represent Alta at Competition. Additionally, information on senior coaches will be posted later this week and those coaches WILL be reaching out THIS week to set up an initial work time.

Important Dates:

Mandatory Team Days from 2:45-4:30pm: March 1st, March 11th, March 16th, and March 21st (if there are issues with any of these dates, let me know immediately). I will give out permission slips and travel info on these days, so we will meet together in the green room first and then spread out to practice and workshop pieces.

Other days you can be here from 2:30-4:30 to practice: February 7-11th, February 14-15, February 22-24, February 28th, March 2nd, March 7th, March 9th, March 14-18th - If you need other times, just schedule with me (Miss Struiksma) ahead and I'll make myself available.

There are TONS of options, so I expect people be here at LEAST once or twice a week outside of team days working on their scene. You MUST meet with your senior coach at least twice before March 1st and then may come and work with Miss Struiksma and Miss Cline. We have the power to do REALLY well at and WIN Region, but it will take hard work and dedication - it will take some time put in on your piece getting it ready!

Grade check: March 3rd!

Region Date/location: March 22nd, 2022 at Orem High School - we will bus down and leave around 1:30pm that day from school.  We will return around 8:30-9pm.

State Date/location: April 23rd, 2022 at Viewpoint High School - we will bus up and leave Alta around 7:30am that Saturday.  We will return around 4-5pm.   This is an epic day and the goal is to get y'all there from region! :)

I am so excited for this team - let's do this!!! Check on the blog on Thursday for senior coach assignments.  If you are interested in being a "little" (meaning, you aide a senior coach and help out with coaching as a younger classmen - it's really fun!), please let me know by Wednesday and then I can add you in with someone.  We would LOVE to have EVERYONE from all grades help!
