Upcoming Children Auditions - The King and I

We are looking to cast 15-20 children for our upcoming production of The King and I.

Auditions will be held in the Alta Choir Room on Sept. 28th from 4-7 p.m.

Auditions are on a first come, first serve basis.  When you arrive you will be given a number and will audition according to your number. We will only be able to audition the first 100 children for these roles, therefore, please come to the auditions earlier rather than later to secure a number for your child.

For the audition, children will be asked to sing a provided selection from the musical and recite a small rhyme.  Both of these items will be available in an audition packet for you to pick up starting September 21st. Please come to the drama room to pick it up.

*This packet will include the material that you will need to bring with you to your audition, including sheet music for the selected song, a short rhyme, and an audition form.  Please fill out the form and bring it with you to your audition.

Children are invited to audition if they meet the following requirements:

-Are between the ages of 4 - 10 years old
-Attend (or will attend if not in school yet) an elementary school that feeds into Alta High
-Have a parent/guardian that is able to attend several rehearsals to help with other children
-Will be able to attend all of the rehearsals AND every performance including 2 morning shows during the school week
Morning shows will be on Nov. 17th and 18th
Evening shows will be on Nov. 19th, 20th, 21st, and 23rd

**A list of rehearsal dates for the children will be posted soon!

-There will be a $25.00 fee per child to participate if cast in the show.  You will be also be responsible for purchasing make up and black colored hair spray.

The King and I - Audition Dates and Info

Here are the details that you need to know about the upcoming musical auditions:

When: September 2nd and 3rd afterschool
Callbacks will be held afterschool on the 4th

What you need to prepare:

*Audition material will be provided for you (both the music and a short monologue from the show), so you don't need to get stressed out about finding a song or a monologue. The music will be available to pick up the first week of school.

***There will be an optional music review day to help you learn the audition piece on Tuesday, Sept. 1st, afterschool in the choir room.

*You will be required to learn a short dancing sequence during the dancing portion of the audition. This will be taught to you at the audition. Please wear appropriate clothing.

Follow these steps, and you will be well on your way to a successful audition:

1. Sign up for an acting/singing audition time slot (posted on the callboard)
2. Pick up the music and become familiar with it
3. Pick up a contract from the callboard
-Read and sign it
-Have a parent/guardian read and sign it
-Bring it with you to your audition
4. Check your schedule and bring a list of any conflicts with you to the audition
5. Pick up the monologue from the callboard the day of your audition
6. Come to your audition 10-15 minutes early to fill out your audition form
7. Relax, and and have fun while singing and acting away
8. Attend the dancing part of the audition ( 5:30 - 6:30 on the same night as your acting/singing audition)
9. Check the blog the night of the 3rd to see if you made callbacks
10. Check the blog on Saturday the 5th to see if you made the final cast

Break a leg at your auditions! More information about the show is available on the callboard in front of the drama room.

Please come talk to Mrs. Sauve if you have any questions in room 1514 (a.k.a. the drama room)
