Region and State Team Announcements!

Hey Team! Here are some announcements for this coming week. Please email Miss Struiksma with any questions!

1) This and next week on Monday and Wednesday we have one-act rehearsal for seniors in the little theatre. Thus we will need to use the PAC lobby for other coaching rehearsals and spread out in there. Dancers may be around too, but we can definitely have enough space for all. Just wanted you to be aware that is where to go for your coaching after you grab your things! If you have NOT signed up with coaches yet, pantomimes, you need to do so this week.

2) We have a mandatory team day and challenge round day on Thursday the 5th. We will meet at 2:45 in the little theatre, but all should get into costumes before then. Plan to be there between 4:30-5pm.

3) We have optional rehearsal and team socials on Tuesday (2:30-4:30pm) and Friday (12:30-3pm) in the Little Theatre! Please come to one (or both) if you can for even part of the time!

4) We have 2.5 weeks till we compete here at Alta on March 19th. Let’s hit it hard and really go for it- let’s take Region for the 8th straight year!

5) Seniors in Theatre 4, please come fully memorized and ready to go tomorrow after school.  Bring scripts with you every day! We need to talk tomorrow about who will help us get our materials to Olympus... can you please ask parents one more time?  (Cara, let's chat!) Also, please bring costume stuff on TUESDAY.

Thank you all and excited to tackle this competition season with you!

2026 Region & State: Team List and Announcements!

Hey Region/State Team!

PLEASE read this whole email - I decided this may be the easiest way to provide information to you about Region and State, but will also ask everyone to join the Remind for this year's team.  The info will be posted on the callboard and white board in the Little Theatre by Wednesday afternoon.

Here it is --> Text @region2026 to 81010

A reminder that we will do first check-ins on January 29th from 4-5:30pm. Your piece does not need to be perfect, but put together and an honest first draft so I can help get you ready. Theatre 3 and 4 students will begin sign-ups in class that day.  Please fill those spots first - it's the same day and will help with time. You will see all options for sign-ups sheet below, so hop on and claim a spot for you (or you and your partners).  You will put your name(s), approx run time (you can plug it in by next Tuesday), and category/title of piece. You MUST be signed into your CSD DOCS email to signup - check that before requesting access - you SHOULD already have it. Below is the sign-up link:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16oJ_GZXD2Wz5hVfEK9j5oZvaDTzps1RgYnp9pHOIiiU/edit?usp=sharing

Below is our Team List, followed by your assignments for Senior Coaches and "Littles."  If you decided as a "little" you don't want to do it, or do and didn't say, please email Struiks by Friday the 23rd. If needed the other important dates are listed at the bottom of this email.  SO excited to start competition season with you!

*Also, if you need help getting a certain set piece, prop or costume piece we don't have, please let me know ASAP and I will find it for you.

Makeup/Costume Needs and Hadestown Google Drive reminder!

Hey Team!

A few announcements for Hadestown -  please read through the ENTIRE email!

First, here is the link to the drive with dances and harmonies recorded - please BOOKMARK THIS SITE:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tSLTygwng1PTEWYdFX7qKP5UDALtvY9j?usp=drive_link

Things you need to have at rehearsal with you by October 20th:

Ladies: a modesty under-garment - can be a leotard or separate tank and shorts for under your costume. I would get two as you are wearing these EVERY night and during tech, and may not have time to wash each night. Links are below for options if needed.

Link to modesty leotard (my fave one): https://bit.ly/4g7gvnW

Link to other leotard: https://bit.ly/42nmoKn

Gentlemen: modesty undergarments -  this is typically active wear shorts and a tank top. I would get two as you are wearing these EVERY night and during tech, and may not have time to wash each night.

Links to Shorts: https://bit.ly/4jq05tK

Link to tops: https://tinyurl.com/msdw73tu

EVERYONE: You will ALL need black boots by the 20th.  Hit up Savers if needed! If you buy a pair you do NOT want to keep, you will NEED the receipt to be reimbursed. If you are keeping the boots you may NOT be reimbursed - just if you are giving us the boots after the show. You will need them by the 20th to keep at school as you need to start practicing in them!

You ALL need basic stage makeup - cover up foundation, powder, light blush, and eyeliner. Ladies please wear mascara; gentlemen it's your choice on that. We will ALL wear some basic makeup to enhance faces under the lights.

Here are some links to videos for basic stage makeup:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csosHts7IU8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA04MbwawUg

FATES - I would love for you to each do something speciality with makeup.  I want black, greys, dark purple, and silver as the vibe.... maybe some blues too. Please know what you are doing by November 1st and have practiced ahead!  If you need inspiration photos, let me know by October 22nd.

Hair - ALL genders, choose a style for the upper world that keeps your hair OUT of your face completely - practice before November 1st as you will come to rehearsal that day with it done. For the underground, everyone with hair that isn't super short (buzzed, bowl, etc) will slick back to a bun for the underground, so practice that too.

Reminder - DANCE D-DAY is November 1st as well; practice and know your blocking and dance steps.

I know we are in for a few long weeks, but I am LOVING working with you all and the glimmers i am already seeing in this show - let's buckle down and kill it, y'all!

PARENTS - I am looking for someone to do Headshots for us on the 17th or 18th next week; if you are available to help please email me ASAP!

Please bookmark this link so you can stay on top of each dance we upload and review dances!

PLEASE make the change to your calendar now and I need an email by Wednesday this week (9/17) if there are ANY new issues.

Thank you for being so awesome and already working so hard. Listening to everyone sing today was so exciting for me and y'all are sounding GLORIOUS!  I appreciate y'all a ton!

Metamorphoses Announcements

 Hello all!

A few quick notes...

First, acknowledgment that our run this wee of Metamorphoses will have NO INTERMISSION.  It's only one hour long! Thus, if you can purchase all concessions (support the department!) and Break-a-Legs for cast and crew BEFORE each show, that would be great.  We want to make sure these students get the best shout-outs ever, so be there a little early to send out your Break-a-Legs!

Second, we are taking Metamorphoses to competition on March 11th at Olympus High School.  I am in need of a trailer to help take our set to and from the competition that day.  Is there ANY parent who has a trailer who would be willing to help us on that day?  Our time has yet to be assigned, but I could work it around your schedule. If you are able, please email me ASAP! :)

Third, if you haven't gotten tickets yet, please come see this incredible show.  The students have worked so hard and it's truly a BEAUTIFUL show and set of stories... I promise it's worth your evening!

THANK YOU!

Meta Rehearsal Notes

 Meta Notes - Saturday 2/8

Kalyee- keep pencil skirt; this works! Can you shake the jar before the words chaos?

Shelby- keep lines facing out at the top, or turn more when talking to Aubree

Ethan- keep emphasis on still EACH time

“daddy do you want to play”- just that line on that entrance, Kailyn. That’s all there’s time for!

- Fugure out which is right; country vs continent Kason and Ethan

Kate - standout for character and projection; nailing it each time. I love the walk off in time with Midas too!

Ethan, more excitement on face over gold items each time you see a change.

Cline- grab safety pins for backstage!

Cara, watch holding arms up the whole time… it’s a nerves twinge, but start having awareness around it.

Slow the line every reluctant breath

Sea fabric narrators- practice black fabric three times before the Monday run!

Cara- wake up when ding happens!

Nate- great projection! Now, play more with vocal variations

WE LOVE MADDY AND LEAH!!! Great relationship!

Cara- great reactions at the end to the scene when they’re describing what happened to you guys.

Walk out creepy and not marching out- hunger cold fear

Ainsley- more desperation and need in body when selling mom

Can the narrators pre-place lyre for Taylor in that transition before Orpheus?

Chloe- subtle emotional reaction to turn… give me more on face or turn ghostlike… either way.

Kason- make the clothing throws higher up to let us see

Struiks- add orange to erysichthon and add pink to baucis and philemon

NIV AND LAYNA AMAZING!!!! We thought the fall was amazing, and so was the spin!

Niv- great reaction to candle wax

Cline- dress elastic on Monday for Ainsley- Ainsley give dress to Cline on Monday at top of rehearsal.

Cast- great reactions in pool! Better timing too, so let’s keep that cue.

Narrators- keep practicing the lights off together. Love the vision.

Thank you for a great day, y’all! I thought there was a way to like this, but… I’m not able to figure it out. So… Happy Saturday!

 Hey Team!

I wanted to post the finalized Meta calendar for the cast and parents.  To the parents, I will be emailing out after the 25th about needs for the show, but for now my only reminder is that fees ($40) for the show are due by Friday.  Please contact me ASAP if there is an issue!

I am already SO excited about this show and for all you will get to see. A few dates if you ARE available to help are build set as needed will be emailed out after the 25th as well.  Two I know are January 7th from 2:45-5:15pm and January 10th from 1:30-5pm.  I know the times aren't as convenient, so just IF you are available to help build, those are some days that the students would appreciate the extra hands.

Region Last-Minute Reminders for Monday and Tuesday!

 Hey Region/State Team!

A few quick reminders about the upcoming week. On Monday we have our final rehearsal and Team Day rom 2:30-5pm.  Please bring ALL costume pieces and any kind of speakers/props you need from home.  I encourage all Musical Theatre and Pantomimes to bring your own mini-speaker.  I will give you time to change at the top of Tuesday to change into costumes after some fun warmups!

On Tuesday, you will be excused from class at 1:30pm to come down to the Green Room and grab your set pieces and costumes.  We will load the bus at 1:45pm and leave promptly after.  Plan to return to the school between 8:30-9pm pending awards time.  Parents and guardians, please watch for a text from students when we are 15 minutes out and please promptly head over to the school.  We will unload the bus and put away set quickly in the green room then all should head home.

As you know, they are not providing a way for your to purchase dinner, so I made a plan to help out.  YOU will need to bring your own drinks/water-bottles and snacks, but myself and Cline will grab some pizzas from Marco's for you to eat after round 2 or 3 (pending time).  They DO offer gluten free pizza or pizza bowls (sans crust), so I can order some of those, but if nervous, you may bring your own food.  If you don't want pizza also plan to bring your own dinner too. I WOULD, again, bring your own snacks - you'll want some between rounds sometimes. If you would like a gluten free pizza, I will take a count on Monday so be sure and check with Marco's this weekend to be sure it meets the requirements you need.

Thank you for your hard work and effort put into the past two months.  I greatly appreciate your drive to compete and am excited for you all to have the experience! I am rooting for you all and so excited to cheer for you through the evening! :)

Region/State Challenge Round and Team Days

 Hey all!

A reminder that challenge rounds for Region/State are coming up on March 4th.  I have to have everything for competition uploaded on March 5th, so there isn't room for an extension. Below is a link to all those I cannot watch in class and then I will finalizing team that evening. I have put you at a certain time, but IF that time does not work, feel free to reach out and switch with someone - just get permission, first.  A big factor playing into my decisions WILL be eligibility.... so get your grades where they need to be by next March 4th (NO exceptions).

Our first team day is on March 6th, so be prepared to come and work hard on your pieces and show off to your peers all you have been working on.  We will also talk about bus and time logistics that day. Please be on time at 2:45pm sharp and bring ALL costume and set pieces for team day.

** For pantomime, costumes are ALL blacks and I would like to see that on the 6th and if possible, for challenge rounds.

Our other team day is the 18th, the day before competition.  So put this on your radar now!

If your name is NOT on the sheet below, prepare that I will be watching you in class on Thursday the 29th OR Monday, March 4th.

"Mean Girls" Cast Notes for 11/11

Cast Notes for Saturday's run on 11/11:

-In opening "It Roars" when you're in the at the school, you don't just have to smile through that dance... how do you feel about Cady and let that shine through!

 - Alix; will you project more on your lines?  Thank you!

- Always be moving in character.  Dances are honestly looking awesome!  Now, when you're not directly dancing, but moving through space in a song or between one, be in character.

 - Xylia, great facials in "Where Do You Belong?"

 - Ruh and Sadie- awesome character on "Where Do You Belong!?"

 - "Meet the Plastics" --> Ava and Nora, awesome expressions!

 - Adam, project out whether you have a mic or not; nice reactions!

- After Janis says "and spies" going into the Cheese Fries scene, please talk so there is a bit of filler before Gretchen's line. Die out when Gretchen starts.

 - Miranda, your line "Welcome to America," can you talk with me on Monday about a suggestion... I have an idea on those beats.  Getting better with energy and projection - keep going big!

 - You guys, dances really are looking awesome - keep it up and energy the whole time!

 - Singing is also much better; please please EVERYONE sing!

 - "Sexy"; Layna and Bella you were killin' it!

  - Ethan and Kason fun exchange at the end of "Sexy" into the scene - so funny!

 - Everyone, thank you for talking leading into the "Someone Gets Hurt" scene.

 - Can about ten more people use red solo cups in that scene?  No one in the left, please - but a few others. Otherwise, it's weird only Aaron uses one... make some choices and some people grab one coming back into the scene before "Someone Gets Hurt."

 - Jacob, I LOVE how engaged you were with being mad at Aaron, but DO NOT MISS THE LIFT PREP.

 - On Monday, can we please meet at 2:30pm for "lift call?"  We should have been doing it the whole time... let's start now and each night we do a "lift call" to just practice both really quick through.  On show nights it will be right at 5:30pm sharp and all MJST be on time. Thanks!

 - Revenge Party: can ensemble have more diction, please?!

 - RUBY: Get a dollar from me.

 - Nate, when Glen Coco leaves that door where you're waiting to come out, do NOT let the audience see you!  Also, dance like you did before and go big like before - it was so fun! Oh, and please don't take the head of the costume off till through the door on stage right.

 - Josh, better expressions before you left!

- Kenna, with "pusher points" only touch her shoulders.  Also, don't pre-know she'll say Aaron.

- Jacob, in the talent show section interact with the audience for a bit more to give plastics a few moments more for the change - just like 20 seconds of improv, appropriate banter.

 - Miranda your yelling as you leave is SO GOOD! Hahaha

 - Fearless; keep it up!  It's just my favorite, so feel it every time- feel what you are saying. :)

 - STOP; I would love more facial expressions and less faces of concentration! Also, remember that Jazz Hands aren't still - they shake.

 - Kate and Josh; watch any mic breathing and really project whether on a mic or not.

 - Miranda, can you try a comedic beat choice on "I know a lot of stuff?"  I think that would add good variation and be fun!

- More talking as people enter on "Who's House Is This?"  Can three or you maybe whoop and holler for Izzy's tumbling?  Izzy - you look awesome!

- "World Burn" everyone had great expressions throughout!  Keep it up! Thank you for keeping out of the middle. Nate, stay in the back of the fight and don't move to front groups - I want that just girls and I want you to the dummy sooner.

 - Kenna, don't cut off Jacob's line in the scene when you enter with your glasses crazy (love that choice, by the way).  Let me know if you can't hear him.

- Jacob, "SAD, old drug pusher" - diction on that line.

 - During the scene before "Rather Be Me" when Regina claims she's a "victim," can I get more small verbal reactions and scoffs?  Fill the space. Also, some more verbal reactions and nervous laughter upon seeing other's hands raised.

 - "We as females..."  That line, Kenna - put that OUT to the audience for more power and then turn back to them "like this," and fall.

- "Rather Be Me" was SO fun!  Keep it up!  Some standouts --> Lilly, Reagan, and Jane!

- "Do Your Thing" I need MORE DICTION!  Kason, your character choices there are gold!  In the "downtime" where Aaron and Cady are flirting, can the Calvin or Ethan do stretches? Haha!

 - Calvin did a GREAT job in that scene of waiting to see if Ruby would get the answer - very clear reactions!

-  Kassie, great timing and character!

 - Stars; don't rush, y'all!  Be in time with your calf clicks and SING OUT when you need to sing! Ladies, make sure side ribbons in dress are tucked in - don't cut them unless it's yours.  Then, do what you want if it is. Think about what you're saying and feeling here- give it as much emotion as "Fearless!"

CAST:  Thank you.  Thank you for the hard work and effort!  Please come on Monday ready to GO HARD and really give all you got for the last practice.  ALL must be ready completely by 3:15pm in the green room and mic checks will start at 3:05pm SHARP.  Thus, leads be ready by 3:05pm.  Afterward, we will do a little warm up in the auditorium at 3:20pm and then vocal warmups and diction in the green room.  We will begin the run ON TIME at a 3:40pm downbeat and HAVE SO MUCH FUN!

When our run is done, we will eat dinner and do notes/assess needs!  You have Tuesday off (please think about going to the Murder Mystery Audition Workshop) and then Wednesday you need to be at school NO LATER THAN 4:30pm as we have the Gala that night.  We will talk through logistics on Monday! Those doing "lift call," on Monday I will pull you at 5pm to do it early on.  We will talk more opening night on Monday - enjoy the Sunday downtime and rest!

"Mean Girls" Ticket Info and Reminders

 Hey Team!

First, THANK YOU to all the parents who have been helping behind the scenes with dinners, concessions, picking up materials, taken headshots, break-a-legs, tickets, etc.  Your efforts are not unseen and greatly appreciated.  Also THANK YOU to the cast and crew starting out - you guys are making this show work and you're working hard - I see that and I appreciate you. Know that I am so excited with all of the choices you're making on stage and the kindness you are showing one another - I really love working with you and am excited about tech week.

A huge reminder of two things happening tomorrow.  First, tomorrow is our next day of the WEAR PINK contest and help advertise!  Please consider dressing up and posting/entering the contest to help start spread the word about our show opening in THREE WEEKS!  The information is below - remember IF you have a private account, you must screenshot the entry and DM our Alta Theatre Instagram page!

Second, tickets for our Opening Night Gala are going on sale tomorrow!  We are excited to host a little hors d'oeuvres and character interaction soiree the opening night of our show at 6pm.  Those who attend will receive some amazing finger foods at this year's "Club Rush" hour, interaction with the characters themselves, entertainment and some prime photo booth opportunities. Also, those who purchase before next Wednesday when ALL tickets go live will be able to choose their opening night seats first before the general public.  Think about coming out and supporting the students with a special Gala ticket!

HEADS UP: For those who got a Gala flyer, the address for tickets is not correct.  I greatly apologize, but at the last minute we needed to switch our ticketing vendor to ensure we could have reserved seating.  Thus, the NEW link will be posted on here and the Instagram Page tomorrow evening.  Thank you for the kindness and understanding!

Wear pink tomorrow, start spreading the word and get ready to buy tickets!!!

Here's the poster to post up to advertise as well.  A huge thank you to Hallie Mastersen for creating such a great poster for us this year. :)

CAST REMINDER - grade checks are due on Monday.
This means on SUNDAY you need to print your grades at home OR MONDAY IN THE LIBRARY before rehearsal you need to print your grades and bring them with you.  PLEASE make this a time I don't need to search anyone out... it could earn you some candy if EVERYONE brings there's on Monday.... meaning, it will.  It will earn you candy. Get your grades where they need to be this week - I'm rooting for you!

Lastly, TO ALL - if ANYONE has a connection to a jazzy (the scooters for people at grocery marts), we are looking for one for the show... One thought is if anyone knows SOMEONE at a grocery store who would let us borrow one for a few days and we'd give them a shoutout in the program.... I know that's a weird request, but it's needed so PLEASE if you have any connections, I would greatly appreciate it!
