TRAILER AND DRIVER NEEDED FOR 4/21

We still need a trailer and truck/driver to help us transport our set to State One Act competition at Box Elder HS on Thursday, 4/21.  If we don't have this help to transport our set pieces, then we are in danger of not being able to perform.  If your household has a trailer and/or available driver whose vehicle has a hitch, please let me know ASAP by emailing me at lindsey.cline@canyonsdistrict.org.

Thanks,

Student-Directed One-Acts 2022 - show descriptions and audition info!

Here are some show descriptions for the upcoming senior Student-Directed One-Acts - auditions will be after school on Monday the 25th and you can sign-up for a time and grab an info packet on the call board in the PAC Green Room. You only need a one-minute monologue to audition, so come get involved!

Directed by Seth Allred and Eli Galata

In A Smart-Alec and Two Idiots Walk into a Closet, a comedy, Connie, Lewis and Shawn find themselves locked in the school janitor’s closet. Before Connie and Lewis freak out anymore, Shawn takes matters into his own hands and sprays them with some bleach, to get them to ‘’cool down’’. In one act, things go from bad to worse when Lewis faints (or pretends to?) after he finds out what he was sprayed with. Connie tries to save him, a kiss doesn’t happen, they all almost die, hope is lost then found again and as they keep waiting for someone to unlock the door, they realize that freedom isn’t really free at all.

Directed by Ellie Vander Veur and Audrey Wilson

The Music of the Titanic is a dramatic piece of historical fiction that follows the story of Tom Bennet who is a musician aboard the Titanic. He surprises his wife and daughter with tickets to go with him on the Titanic where he will be performing. He and his family are aboard the Titanic when it crashes into an iceberg. Tom gives people peace through his music as the ship slowly sinks into the ocean. The story goes on to show how the grieving family finds peace in Tom’s legacy and how his music touched many lives.

Directed by Anna Teichert

"Psych in The Suburbs" follows five household objects gathered in group therapy led by Gloria the ditzy therapist. These kooky characters include: a "pointless" knife, an alarm clock set fifteen minutes fast, a sock who lost his match, a germaphobic tissue, and a people pleasing rug. In their session they discuss their current life struggles through puns, monologues, and quippy comedy.

Directed by Jenna Foulks

Avalanche follows Barry and Clarice, two people from different walks of life that have been caught in an avalanche, and have survived. Barry is a boisterous man with lots of personality, convinced that Clarice is a part of the rescue team come to save him. Clarice, however, is quicker to come to terms with reality. Both characters are very endearing as they share the beauty and the humor of life in a traumatic situation with perhaps no chance of a rescue.

Directed by Irey Oviatt and Jaxson Baker

“The Queue” by Stephen Bittrich. Two people(NON GENDER SPECIFIC), William and Stream are in line for an audition in which they are going for the same role. The role requires a British accent, and things take a comedic turn when Stream discovers that William has a British accent in real life. The piece follows the absurdity that ensues, as Stream probes about the authenticity of Williams' accent. With William's anger increasing, and Stream’s nagging becoming more persistent. Will Stream push away their biggest competition and win over the casting director to secure the role?

Directed by Toni Alanzo

A comedic, ‘modern’ take on the events of the Donner Party during the 1840s. There are only two rations left in the cabin and the party must decide who gets them. James and Margaret want to give the children the servings, Lewis and John want them for themselves, Elizabeth doesn’t want to eat them because they aren’t ‘vegan’, Jacob wants control of the party, and Uncle Patrick wants nothing but chaos. Who will get the rations? Will Patty turn them to cannibalism? Will they come to their senses and listen to George? I doubt it… Find out in this wacky character filled play!

State 2022 Team

 Hey Team!

I wanted to touch base about the schedule for State Rehearsals.  Those involved with Ballyhoo have already received a calendar for State from Miss Cline in email - PLEASE actors and technicians, be on top of those dates and times so we can really be successful with State!  Our plan is we will head out VERY early on April 21st for competition, so be prepared to miss school that day.

We will not begin any rehearsals until after Spring Break for IEs.  I would greatly encourage you to run your piece or your PART of your piece at least twice over break, but official rehearsal days will not take place until we return.  Days I am encouraging you to be there for IE rehearsal from 2:30-4:30pm are April 12th, 14th, and 19th.  Everyone is REQUIRED to come for day before things and out final team day from 12pm-2pm on the virtual Friday, April 22nd.   We NEED you there and there on time that day for all our announcements and final runs - please bring all props and costume pieces from home that day.

We will head to compete with IEs on Satursday, April 23rd at 7:30am SHARP.  We will have everyone there by 7:20am, load the bus, and pull out at 7:30am to head to Viewmont High School in Bountiful.  Plan to be there ALL day and get back between 4-5pm. I will have more specific details AFTER Spring Break, but don't get them until the 12th.

Let's put our whole hearts into our pieces for just a FEW more weeks and really BRING IT at State!  We can do this - have fun and get well rested over Spring Break, y'all! :)

Region Team 2022

A huge thank you to all who auditioned for team!

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE BELOW!

This is our initial team, with challenge rounds scheduled to take place on March 3rd, 2022.  If on the list below, please get prepared to perform at challenge rounds regardless of the amount in each category.  If I have you and your partner in class I MAY pull you during class to watch you that week.  If I do NOT have you and your partner in class together, you WILL complete your challenge round entry on March 3rd after school.  This is a check-in to make sure you are ready and prepared fully to represent Alta at Competition. Additionally, information on senior coaches will be posted later this week and those coaches WILL be reaching out THIS week to set up an initial work time.

Important Dates:

Mandatory Team Days from 2:45-4:30pm: March 1st, March 11th, March 16th, and March 21st (if there are issues with any of these dates, let me know immediately). I will give out permission slips and travel info on these days, so we will meet together in the green room first and then spread out to practice and workshop pieces.

Other days you can be here from 2:30-4:30 to practice: February 7-11th, February 14-15, February 22-24, February 28th, March 2nd, March 7th, March 9th, March 14-18th - If you need other times, just schedule with me (Miss Struiksma) ahead and I'll make myself available.

There are TONS of options, so I expect people be here at LEAST once or twice a week outside of team days working on their scene. You MUST meet with your senior coach at least twice before March 1st and then may come and work with Miss Struiksma and Miss Cline. We have the power to do REALLY well at and WIN Region, but it will take hard work and dedication - it will take some time put in on your piece getting it ready!

Grade check: March 3rd!

Region Date/location: March 22nd, 2022 at Orem High School - we will bus down and leave around 1:30pm that day from school.  We will return around 8:30-9pm.

State Date/location: April 23rd, 2022 at Viewpoint High School - we will bus up and leave Alta around 7:30am that Saturday.  We will return around 4-5pm.   This is an epic day and the goal is to get y'all there from region! :)

I am so excited for this team - let's do this!!! Check on the blog on Thursday for senior coach assignments.  If you are interested in being a "little" (meaning, you aide a senior coach and help out with coaching as a younger classmen - it's really fun!), please let me know by Wednesday and then I can add you in with someone.  We would LOVE to have EVERYONE from all grades help!
