2. The schedule is included in the audition packet, but you can also access it HERE.

3. The audition sign-up sheet is linked in the digital packet, but you can also access it HERE.  Please sign up as early in the afternoon as possible.  If we run out of audition spots, I will add more.

4. Please find the Assistant Director application HERE.  Please submit a hard copy of your application to Cline by 2:30 pm on Wednesday, 12/13.

A couple of audition reminders:

  • You should audition with a 1 minute contemporary dramatic monologue - British dialogue suggested but not required.
  • When you audition, you MUST bring your signed production contract, completed audition form, completed conflict sheet, and a printout of your grades that show your final Q1 grades as well as your current grades.
I'm SO excited!  Please feel free to email Cline with questions (lindsey.cline@canyonsdistrict.org)

Murder Mystery Parent/Guardian Email

Dear Parent/Guardians,

Several  parents emailed that the email I sent hadn't gone through. A HUGE thank you to your students for mentioning it and for checking in.  Here is the message in case the resent email was still sassy.  Again, thank you SO much!

First, thank you so much for allowing your students to be a part of this year's Murder Mystery cast.  We are excited to have rehearsals underway and watch everyone grow in their acting and improv skills.  I wanted to give you the heads up that tickets are on sale NOW!  We will have shows at 5 pm and 7:30 pm on Friday, 12/8. Tickets in advance are $16 and $18 at the door and include charcuterie, desserts, swig-style soda drinks, and of course the show!  That said there are ONLY 100 tickets PER SHOW.  After they are sold out, we CANNOT add more seats and food. Please buy early!  The links to the 5 pm and 7:30 pm show tickets are below:

Another reason for emailing is to ask for help in respect to food needs for the Murder Mystery.  We take care of costuming, production needs, decorations, etc. and will be buying a large portion of the food for the event.  We are in need of parent/guardians to purchase specific food items and store refrigerated items until bringing them to the PAC on show day.
On show day, parent/guardians will bring their food items either at 4:00pm or 6:30pm to ensure things stay cold.  I wish we had a kitchen here to use, but with us being housed in the PAC, we do not.

I have created and included a sign-up sheet for food needs.  PLEASE know that the only way to make this work is to have everyone help.  Each parent/guardian will need to sign up for at least one food need.  If you can sign up for more than one, please do so.  You can ABSOLUTELY be fully reimbursed for your food purchases.  Please just write your name and address on your receipt and send it to rehearsal with your student.  Please sign up by this Thursday, 11/30.  The sign up sheet is linked below.

Lastly, we are looking for one (or more) parent/guardian(s) who can take pictures of our awesome Murdery Mystery cast starting at 3 pm next Monday, 12/4.  Please email me if that's something that you can help us with.

Thank you in advance for your help and don't forget to buy your tickets :)

Blue Stockings - Spring Play - Initial Information!

A huge thank you to council members Kassie and Tessa for helping me
announce our spring show - Blue Stockings by Jessica Swale.

Y'all…I read what felt like a million scripts between May and August searching
for the show that I wanted to direct for our spring play.  I wanted something with
characters that we could dig into and explore and something with a message we
could explore as well.  I FINALLY stumbled upon Jessica Swale's play, Blue Stockings,
and knew that this HAD to be our spring play.  To my knowledge, we are the first
Canyons School to produce and perform this play, which is super exciting!

Background information: Blue Stockings is set in the late 1800's at the first
university for female students, Girton College, which is just outside of Cambridge.
As the play's group of protagonists navigate what it means to be educated women
to themselves and society, Girton's principal is also petitioning for her female students
to have the right to graduate.

Audition Information: Auditions will be held on Thursday, December 14th.
Please prepare a one-minute contemporary dramatic monologue.  You are
not required to use a British dialect for auditions, but those called back will be
asked to.  So I say…give it a try!  I'm looking for a British RP dialect, not
Cockney.  British RP is what we might consider the "traditional" British.
Julie Andrews, Emma Watson, and Emma Thompson are great folks to listen to
as you're practicing this dialect.  Callbacks will be held on Friday, December 15th.
Auditions and callbacks will be in the Green Room of the PAC.

Upcoming Info: You can expect a digital version of the audition packet to be
posted on the blog by Wednesday as well as the audition sign-up sheet.  Printed
packets will be available by the end of the week.

Understudies: Some characters will have understudies.  We will have an Understudy
Performance Night on Thursday, 2/15.  Those cast as understudies will perform the
other nights as speaking or non-speaking ensemble roles.  For the Understudy
performance, lead actors will perform their understudy's ensemble role - essentially
swapping for the night!

Resources for Audition Prep: Take a look at the character breakdown, historical
context, overview, and detailed synopsis HERE.  You can read a PDF
version of the script HERE.

I'm so excited to begin work on this show after Murder Mystery and see your
auditions on 12/14!

"Mean Girls" Cast Notes for 11/11

Cast Notes for Saturday's run on 11/11:

-In opening "It Roars" when you're in the at the school, you don't just have to smile through that dance... how do you feel about Cady and let that shine through!

 - Alix; will you project more on your lines?  Thank you!

- Always be moving in character.  Dances are honestly looking awesome!  Now, when you're not directly dancing, but moving through space in a song or between one, be in character.

 - Xylia, great facials in "Where Do You Belong?"

 - Ruh and Sadie- awesome character on "Where Do You Belong!?"

 - "Meet the Plastics" --> Ava and Nora, awesome expressions!

 - Adam, project out whether you have a mic or not; nice reactions!

- After Janis says "and spies" going into the Cheese Fries scene, please talk so there is a bit of filler before Gretchen's line. Die out when Gretchen starts.

 - Miranda, your line "Welcome to America," can you talk with me on Monday about a suggestion... I have an idea on those beats.  Getting better with energy and projection - keep going big!

 - You guys, dances really are looking awesome - keep it up and energy the whole time!

 - Singing is also much better; please please EVERYONE sing!

 - "Sexy"; Layna and Bella you were killin' it!

  - Ethan and Kason fun exchange at the end of "Sexy" into the scene - so funny!

 - Everyone, thank you for talking leading into the "Someone Gets Hurt" scene.

 - Can about ten more people use red solo cups in that scene?  No one in the left, please - but a few others. Otherwise, it's weird only Aaron uses one... make some choices and some people grab one coming back into the scene before "Someone Gets Hurt."

 - Jacob, I LOVE how engaged you were with being mad at Aaron, but DO NOT MISS THE LIFT PREP.

 - On Monday, can we please meet at 2:30pm for "lift call?"  We should have been doing it the whole time... let's start now and each night we do a "lift call" to just practice both really quick through.  On show nights it will be right at 5:30pm sharp and all MJST be on time. Thanks!

 - Revenge Party: can ensemble have more diction, please?!

 - RUBY: Get a dollar from me.

 - Nate, when Glen Coco leaves that door where you're waiting to come out, do NOT let the audience see you!  Also, dance like you did before and go big like before - it was so fun! Oh, and please don't take the head of the costume off till through the door on stage right.

 - Josh, better expressions before you left!

- Kenna, with "pusher points" only touch her shoulders.  Also, don't pre-know she'll say Aaron.

- Jacob, in the talent show section interact with the audience for a bit more to give plastics a few moments more for the change - just like 20 seconds of improv, appropriate banter.

 - Miranda your yelling as you leave is SO GOOD! Hahaha

 - Fearless; keep it up!  It's just my favorite, so feel it every time- feel what you are saying. :)

 - STOP; I would love more facial expressions and less faces of concentration! Also, remember that Jazz Hands aren't still - they shake.

 - Kate and Josh; watch any mic breathing and really project whether on a mic or not.

 - Miranda, can you try a comedic beat choice on "I know a lot of stuff?"  I think that would add good variation and be fun!

- More talking as people enter on "Who's House Is This?"  Can three or you maybe whoop and holler for Izzy's tumbling?  Izzy - you look awesome!

- "World Burn" everyone had great expressions throughout!  Keep it up! Thank you for keeping out of the middle. Nate, stay in the back of the fight and don't move to front groups - I want that just girls and I want you to the dummy sooner.

 - Kenna, don't cut off Jacob's line in the scene when you enter with your glasses crazy (love that choice, by the way).  Let me know if you can't hear him.

- Jacob, "SAD, old drug pusher" - diction on that line.

 - During the scene before "Rather Be Me" when Regina claims she's a "victim," can I get more small verbal reactions and scoffs?  Fill the space. Also, some more verbal reactions and nervous laughter upon seeing other's hands raised.

 - "We as females..."  That line, Kenna - put that OUT to the audience for more power and then turn back to them "like this," and fall.

- "Rather Be Me" was SO fun!  Keep it up!  Some standouts --> Lilly, Reagan, and Jane!

- "Do Your Thing" I need MORE DICTION!  Kason, your character choices there are gold!  In the "downtime" where Aaron and Cady are flirting, can the Calvin or Ethan do stretches? Haha!

 - Calvin did a GREAT job in that scene of waiting to see if Ruby would get the answer - very clear reactions!

-  Kassie, great timing and character!

 - Stars; don't rush, y'all!  Be in time with your calf clicks and SING OUT when you need to sing! Ladies, make sure side ribbons in dress are tucked in - don't cut them unless it's yours.  Then, do what you want if it is. Think about what you're saying and feeling here- give it as much emotion as "Fearless!"

CAST:  Thank you.  Thank you for the hard work and effort!  Please come on Monday ready to GO HARD and really give all you got for the last practice.  ALL must be ready completely by 3:15pm in the green room and mic checks will start at 3:05pm SHARP.  Thus, leads be ready by 3:05pm.  Afterward, we will do a little warm up in the auditorium at 3:20pm and then vocal warmups and diction in the green room.  We will begin the run ON TIME at a 3:40pm downbeat and HAVE SO MUCH FUN!

When our run is done, we will eat dinner and do notes/assess needs!  You have Tuesday off (please think about going to the Murder Mystery Audition Workshop) and then Wednesday you need to be at school NO LATER THAN 4:30pm as we have the Gala that night.  We will talk through logistics on Monday! Those doing "lift call," on Monday I will pull you at 5pm to do it early on.  We will talk more opening night on Monday - enjoy the Sunday downtime and rest!
