"Mean Girls" Musical Audition Packets and Information!

Auditions for Alta Theatre Department's musical are just around the corner!

We will be producing "Mean Girls the Musical" this Fall (shows taking place in November) and auditions will take place on September 6th and 7th.  There will also be a Musical Workshop (optional to all) on Tuesday, September 5th if you would like to come and get some tips and tricks together for your audition. We will meet for that workshop in the Green Room of the PAC at 2:45pm till no later than 4pm.

Students can grab an audition packet and sign up for an audition time in the Green Room of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) starting FRIDAY, August 25th.  The packet will be hardcopies to grab in the PAC and the signups will be a QR Code to scan and signup for your chosen time on either day.

PLEASE PRINT AND ATTACH LAST TERM’S GRADES TO YOUR AUDITION PACKET!

Below is a digital link to the packet for your viewing needs and a TENTATIVE picture calendar.  Please read through the ENTIRE packet before asking questions - if there are still questions about audition and show details, please email me at linze.struiksma@canyonsdistrict.org

In case you would like to read through this, here is the synopsis of the show: The Alta High School Theatre department is thrilled to present Mean Girls the Musical, the brutally hilarious musical from book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung, and that ultimately, kindness rules all.

The QR code to sign up for an audition time is included in the digital audition packet - we will not be using a physical sign up sheet, so please use the QR code.  Let me know if you run into any problems/need help :)

Below are also two websites that can help you find a monologue for auditions if you're still looking:

https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/shakespeare-monologues-for-actors-73050/

https://www.shakespeare-monologues.org/home

These websites include monologues from Shakespeare's comedies, histories, and tragedies.  Remember - you need a monologue from a COMEDY.

I'm so excited to see everyone at auditions and pumped to start working on this piece!

Parent Help: Truck of Trailer Needed for a Pickup!

Hey Team!

I am in need of a parent or student to help with pickup needs for "Mean Girls" materials.  I will be ordering a bunch of wood for building the end of next week from Home Depot, but my car is way to small to load anything. I also need to pick up some rotating chairs from Corner Canyon sometime next week - I will have measurements on those shortly.  If you are able and willing in the next two weeks sometime to help with these pick-ups, please send me an email and let me know your availability over the next two weeks.

Email: linze.struiksma@canyonsdistrict.org

I appreciate you a ton!

 - Linze Struiksma ("Struiks")

P.S. Audition Packets will be up on here and in the PAC Green Room next week!

Shakespeare Audition Info - Ensemble Scene

 Hi everyone!

This post contains information about Shakespeare Ensemble scene auditions - please read it carefully and email me with any questions.

For your audition, please prepare a 1 minute comedic monologue from a Shakespeare play.  You MAY use material from The Merry Wives of Windsor.  My preference is always that you're memorized, but if you need to have the script in hand when you audition you may - I know that Shakespeare's language is very specific.  I would MUCH rather you audition with the text in your hand to help you, than you not audition.

As a reminder, our ensemble scene is part of our Shakespeare competition team.  For this scene, I am pulling from several different parts of The Merry Wives of Windsor and setting our piece on the soundstage of a 90's sitcom!

You can expect another post next week with the digital audition packet and information on signing up for an audition time.  Audition packets will also be printed out and available in the Green Room the first week of school.

Several dates to mark on your calendars:

1. Monday, Aug. 28 - Shakespeare Audition workshop in the Green Room from 2:30 - 3:30

2. Tuesday, Aug. 29 - Shakespeare Auditions in Green Room (again, more on that next week)

3. Wednesday, Aug. 30 - Shakespeare Callbacks in the Green Room 2:30 - 5:00

I'm so excited about this scene and hope to see you at the workshop and auditions!

Tap Thursdays - Come prepare for auditions!

 Hey all!

Auditions for Mean Girls are coming up in a few weeks and I wanted to let you know that starting next week we will be hosting Tap Thursdays before school starts to get your skills sharpened.  It's a chance to learn some tap, meet the choreographer ahead of time, and start to get in the "picking-up-choreography" mode.  No matter what part you are going out for, we would love to have you and it's open to ALL current and incoming-this-year Alta students.  See the flyer below for dates and times - all Tap Thursdays will be held in the Alta PAC Auditorium!
