State Team Info!

 Hi everyone!

First - congratulations on a HUGELY successful Region competition.  Struiks and I are SO proud of you all and excited to think about the next step - STATE!!!

Please see the info/dates/reminders below:

1 - MOST IMPORTANT! State competition will be held on Saturday, 4/19.  We will leave in the morning on a bus, like we did for Region.

2. ALSO MOST IMPORTANT! - We have a mandatory team meeting on Tuesday, April 15 from 2:30 - 4 pm in the Little Theatre where you will get info about State competition and run your pieces for each other (like in our Region meeting) in costume and with set/props.

3. If you haven't gone over your Region ballots with Struiks, do that ASAP please - ideally tomorrow right after school.

4. I (Cline) have added several sign-up times to work with IEs on 4/1 and 4/2.  We will meet and work in the PAC lobby.  Even if you don't work with me, the PAC lobby will be open for you to rehearse your IEs on those days from right after school until 4 pm.  You can sign-up for a time with me by scrolling to the bottom of the sign-up sheet, linked HERE.

5. You should work on your IE piece at least 3 times between going over your ballots with Struiks and our mandatory meeting on 4/15.  At least one of those times should be with your coach.

You all had a great Region competition - keep up that focus, momentum, and productive work so that you put yourself in the best spot you can to have a fun and successful State competition as well!

Feel free to email me with any questions - appreciate you all!

Free UHMTA tickets to see and support Tessa!

 Hi everyone!

As you know, our very own Tessa Osborne is a Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards FINALIST for best actress in her role of Miss Honey.

Tessa and the other nominees will perform during the awards ceremony before winners are announced and our school has a block of free tickets available to students who were involved in Matilda!

The awards show is formal - so a great excuse to get dressed up! - and is held at the Eccles Theatre in downtown Salt Lake.  This awards show will be on April 12th at 7 pm.  If you want to attend, you'll need to coordinate your own ride because we will not be taking a bus.

I'd love for as many people to attend as possible - obviously to support Tessa and also to see some awesome performances - it's such a cool event!

If you are going to attend (and I hope you do!) please sign up on the Google Sheet linked HERE.  We have a total of 28 tickets available, so they are reserved on a first come, first serve basis.  If you are going to attend with one of our free tickets, you MUST sign up on this sheet by 3pm on Monday, 3/31.

For those that do sign up, keep an eye out next week for more information about coordinating plans to meet beforehand, eat, and pick up tickets. :)

Thanks!

Murder Mystery Dinner Sign-Ups

 Hi everyone,

We are SO excited for our Murder Mystery shows on Friday!  While Kason's parents are taking care of LOTS of the food elements for the shows, we are in need of parent/guardian support to supply some items and to help prepare the food (this will be done in the foods room on the 2nd floor in the main building - room 2410).

As a reminder, you are eligible for reimbursement for your purchases - we just need extra hands to pick things up and get them here :)

Access the sign-up sheet for food and help needs HERE.  If you are able to help or supply food, please sign-up - we couldn't do this awesome improv experience every year without your help.

For reimbursement - have your student drop off a paper copy of your receipt to the folder on the Little Theatre callboard.  On the back of your receipt, please include your full name, phone number, and address.

Thank you and appreciate you all!

Final Region 2025 Competition Team!

Congratulations to all of you and your hard work these past few weeks!  I was very pleased to see so much growth on everyone's region piece and can't wait to keep working with you the next two weeks to get things ready for competition. I wish we could take all of you to compete.  It was really difficult to make some of the cuts needed, but I wanted to let those who are not on this final list know that you are still a part of team and valued!  It came down to fractions of points- please reach out for individual feedback as desired. Even if not on this list, you are welcome to attend region and cheer on the team/help as needed.  If you do not wish to do so, please just let me know by next Tuesday (3/11) and I will remove you from the excusal list.

REMINDER:  Grades for Term 3 MUST be eligibility approved.  You must have a 2.5 or above and no more than 1 F on the final grades... plus, you must have attendance in shape.  If this is NOT the case it will disqualify from you from State and you MUST be eligible for region AND state to compete.... KEEP GRADES UP STARTING NOW!

Also, below are important date reminders AND your group numbers for those moving on to the competitive rounds.  You should use these instead of your names and school in the slate starting tomorrow- do NOT use your names and school at competition and PLEASE practice slates ahead of time.

Important Dates:

Team Days

 - 3/7 TECH CHECK after school - I will be checking all of your projects and going over how to present your material. Have your projects with you ON FRIDAY!  You will present your projects for judging on March 11th at Olympus HS, so you will need to bring everything with you that day.

- 3/11 One-Act Competition Day at Olympus High School.  We will meet in the Little Theatre between 6:50-7am and then load the bus at 7am with ALL costume pieces.  Set pieces will be loaded the night before. We will head to Olympus HS and spend the day there.  I will know at the end of the week what time we will be back - it will be between 4:30-5:30pm.

- 3/17 TEAM DAY at 2:30pm till 4:30pm in the Little Theatre; costumes mandatory!

Competition Date -

- 3/18 Region IE Competition Day at Alta HS! You will be there that evening until around 9pm, so plan accordingly. You will be called from class at 1pm for set-up, changing, warm-ups, etc. and then rounds begin at 3:30pm sharp. Please plan to be there the ENTIRE time for all rounds you compete and awards. We WILL sell pizza, chips, candy, and drinks for $1 each that evening. BRING CASH or your own meal!

You CAN rehearse on other days - and SHOULD.... recall someone is here after school most days according to the list Cline made for y'all.  Reminder - plan to get picked up most days by 4:30pm.

Below are the numbers and final casting - again, we wish we could take everyone!

Parent Region IE help needed!

Hello wonderful parents!

We are in need of a few helping hands to help pick up and sell some pizza for us on March 18th.  We would sell for all of the schools coming to Region Competition as a fundraiser, but also as a way to FEED the masses when they are constantly competing.  I told them we could buy chips, candy, sodas, and waters ahead and then pick up Costco Pizza the night of the event. I would like to sell between 5:30-7:30pm, so we would need to preorder pizzas earlier that week and pick them up around 5pm. I DO have a Costco card for pick up if needed, but if there are any out there who have one, that would be ideal and easiest.

If any of you are available and willing, I would love to find 4-6 parents to help!  Please send me an email and we can coordinate... thank you in advance!

Metamorphoses Announcements

 Hello all!

A few quick notes...

First, acknowledgment that our run this wee of Metamorphoses will have NO INTERMISSION.  It's only one hour long! Thus, if you can purchase all concessions (support the department!) and Break-a-Legs for cast and crew BEFORE each show, that would be great.  We want to make sure these students get the best shout-outs ever, so be there a little early to send out your Break-a-Legs!

Second, we are taking Metamorphoses to competition on March 11th at Olympus High School.  I am in need of a trailer to help take our set to and from the competition that day.  Is there ANY parent who has a trailer who would be willing to help us on that day?  Our time has yet to be assigned, but I could work it around your schedule. If you are able, please email me ASAP! :)

Third, if you haven't gotten tickets yet, please come see this incredible show.  The students have worked so hard and it's truly a BEAUTIFUL show and set of stories... I promise it's worth your evening!

THANK YOU!

Meta Rehearsal Notes

 Meta Notes - Saturday 2/8

Kalyee- keep pencil skirt; this works! Can you shake the jar before the words chaos?

Shelby- keep lines facing out at the top, or turn more when talking to Aubree

Ethan- keep emphasis on still EACH time

“daddy do you want to play”- just that line on that entrance, Kailyn. That’s all there’s time for!

- Fugure out which is right; country vs continent Kason and Ethan

Kate - standout for character and projection; nailing it each time. I love the walk off in time with Midas too!

Ethan, more excitement on face over gold items each time you see a change.

Cline- grab safety pins for backstage!

Cara, watch holding arms up the whole time… it’s a nerves twinge, but start having awareness around it.

Slow the line every reluctant breath

Sea fabric narrators- practice black fabric three times before the Monday run!

Cara- wake up when ding happens!

Nate- great projection! Now, play more with vocal variations

WE LOVE MADDY AND LEAH!!! Great relationship!

Cara- great reactions at the end to the scene when they’re describing what happened to you guys.

Walk out creepy and not marching out- hunger cold fear

Ainsley- more desperation and need in body when selling mom

Can the narrators pre-place lyre for Taylor in that transition before Orpheus?

Chloe- subtle emotional reaction to turn… give me more on face or turn ghostlike… either way.

Kason- make the clothing throws higher up to let us see

Struiks- add orange to erysichthon and add pink to baucis and philemon

NIV AND LAYNA AMAZING!!!! We thought the fall was amazing, and so was the spin!

Niv- great reaction to candle wax

Cline- dress elastic on Monday for Ainsley- Ainsley give dress to Cline on Monday at top of rehearsal.

Cast- great reactions in pool! Better timing too, so let’s keep that cue.

Narrators- keep practicing the lights off together. Love the vision.

Thank you for a great day, y’all! I thought there was a way to like this, but… I’m not able to figure it out. So… Happy Saturday!

Region Sign-Ups - All Region Team Members Please Read Carefully!!!

 Hi everyone,

I know for many of you, it's a crazy time of year (when is it not, honestly haha) but it's time to start signing up for coaching spots for your Region piece - I LOVE Region time!

We are defending multiple back-to-back Region championships and we HAVE to put in the time and work this year to hold on to that title.  We have 3 awesome alums (Sam Martinez, Dylan Thomas, and Lyndsey Nelson) who are offering their time, talent, and expertise to help our Region teams/individuals prepare.

Coaching times are available beginning this Friday, February 7.  It is your responsibility to sign up for time slots.  I strongly recommend scheduling at least 3 coaching sessions before our first full team meeting on March 4.  Please sign up no later than 24 hours in advance to be considerate of our coaches' time.  These coaching sessions are designed to benefit you and help you prepare and perform at your highest level - our coaches are very kind and very knowledgeable.  BE BRAVE AND SIGN UP!!!!

Please carefully read the information at the top of the sign-up sheet and let me know if you have any questions (lindsey.cline@canyonsdistrict.org or lindsey.cline@csddocs.org).

This year, you will sign up for times by adding your name(s) on a Google Doc.  There will be a QR on the call board in the Little Theatre that will allow you to access the Sign-Up Sheet Doc.  You can also access the sign-up sheet HERE.  (If at any point, the QR code is sassy, please come back to the hyperlinked "HERE" to get to the doc.)

** CHALLENGE ROUNDS will be on March 4th after school on that team day - a signup will go up the week before!

Thank you for all of your continued time, work, and talent.  Keep it up so that we can earn that Region Champs title again this year!

-Cline
