Hadestown - Set Piece Pickup!

If you have yet to hear, the musical for our Fall 2025 season is...... HADESTOWN!

Our Spring Show is equally exciting --> THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG!

We are exceptionally excited about this incredible season and can't wait to get started. Well, I guess we can take on the summer with equal excitement... :)

That said, we are need of a parent with a truck to get four large blocks from Crescent Middle School (right down the road from us) to Alta High School. If there is ANYONE who has a little time this week, we can coordinate a time and make it happen.  Please email me (Struiks) ASAP: linze.struiksma@canyonsdistrict.org

Let's make Hadestown happen!

IE Auditions for 2025 Shakespeare Team!!!

 Hi everyone,

IE (Individual Event) Shakespeare auditions for next year's team will be held on May 20th in the Little Theatre!

Packets are available and on the callboard (thank you Ainsley!) and the audition sign-up sheet will also be posted on the callboard.

Please read through the packet carefully for important information.  A couple key items are below:

1. Fill out and bring pages 5 and 9 of the packet with you to auditions, as well as your grades from spring semester.

2. Please prepare a one minute Shakespeare monologue or a two minute Shakespeare scene with 1-2 partners.  I encourage you to find your own piece that you are excited to work on, but there are two monologue options that you are welcome to use for your audition piece on the last pages of the audition packet.  Additionally, I prefer to see a memorized audition, BUT, if you need to use your script (especially if this is your first time working with Shakespeare text) then that is ok!  Ultimately, I want you to have a fun, successful audition that you feel proud of!

3. For those cast with an IE piece, there will be a mandatory meeting from 2:45 - 3:45 pm in the Little Theatre on May 21st (the day after auditions).

You can access a digital copy of the audition packet HERE.  If you have questions, feel free to email me (lindsey.cline@canyonsdistrict.org) or stop by my room (2313) if you don't find me in the Little Theatre or the PAC. :)

I'm so excited for Shakespeare Competition and hope to see you at auditions!  (Ensemble scene auditions will be held at the beginning of the next school year.)

SDOA 2025 Information and Audition Packet!

 Hey all!

SDOA auditions are coming up on April 22nd and we are excited to have you all come and get involved! This is an opportunity for younger classmen (freshman-juniors) to audition for the 10-minute, senior-directed shows and have an incredible bonding and acting experience in just three weeks. Our seniors have applied and been chosen as your directors with some awesome, fun shows and ideas. Below is a list of shows and directors for you to look over as you choose and prepare your monologues.

Remember you will be considered for ALL shows unless otherwise marked in your audition packet and then assigned to the one you are cast in by the directors. Check out the descriptions below and links to the packet.  Hard copies are in the green room of the PAC starting tomorrow!

Directors: Kate Eberhardt and Mercedes Nye

SHOW: The Question

Four androgynous aliens from the other side of the cosmos - Bip, Bop, Bleep, and Blop - abduct a hapless young man from Earth to ask him their planet's most troubling question. When young Andy hears the question, however, all he wants to do is go back to bed in his own plane of reality.

Director: Ethan Regan and Aubree Hewlett

SHOW: A Willful Murder

After the death of Maude Adams, her siblings, Arthur and Florence, her niece and nephew, Dorothy and Joseph, her former stepson, Kenneth, and her former mother-in-law, Victoria, are sent letters by Maude's solicitor calling them to her home. Her solicitor, Walter, is delayed at the airport in the rain and won't be arriving at the home for a few hours. Soon, people start dying, one by one, and accusations start being thrown around at each other, until just one is left...

Directors: Nate Coleman and Christian Holyfield

SHOW: An Elevator of Tragedy or Destiny

It's a fall day in the 2000s, and four characters from very contrasting backgrounds end up stuck in an elevator together. Kitty (a passionate entrepreneur), Marvin (a successful businessman), Darlene (a new mother), and Will (a determined janitor) all figure out their struggle together. From realizing their situation is much worse than it had seemed, to discovering that all of them seem to belong together, the elevator quickly becomes a symbol for something greater.

Director: Kason Seamans

SHOW: The Couch

A young couple is fighting over what couch to put in their new house together. We see how their two friends encourage them to go back and forth swapping more than just a simple couch and what proceeds after the chaos.

Directors: Kendra Jones and JoshUA Graham

SHOW: Santa's Dolphin

In a world affected by global warming, Santa has shifted to using magical dolphins instead of magical reindeer to get from house to house on Christmas. Prancer and Blixen try to resolve tension with the new dolphins, Spouty and Leaper. Full of comedy and forbidden love, this show's purpose is to promote acceptance.

Director: Megan Carlson and Ainsley Cardall

SHOW: Spark's Fly

Fourth of July and President's Day are having relationship problems, and it's up to Doctor Valentine’s Day to fix it. Loud and oblivious, Fourth of July sees no problem. However, shy and non-confrontational Presidents Day has had enough. In this dramedy, we follow the couple's ups and downs, and see what happens when Holidays collide and "sparks fly."

State Team Info!

 Hi everyone!

First - congratulations on a HUGELY successful Region competition.  Struiks and I are SO proud of you all and excited to think about the next step - STATE!!!

Please see the info/dates/reminders below:

1 - MOST IMPORTANT! State competition will be held on Saturday, 4/19.  We will leave in the morning on a bus, like we did for Region.

2. ALSO MOST IMPORTANT! - We have a mandatory team meeting on Tuesday, April 15 from 2:30 - 4 pm in the Little Theatre where you will get info about State competition and run your pieces for each other (like in our Region meeting) in costume and with set/props.

3. If you haven't gone over your Region ballots with Struiks, do that ASAP please - ideally tomorrow right after school.

4. I (Cline) have added several sign-up times to work with IEs on 4/1 and 4/2.  We will meet and work in the PAC lobby.  Even if you don't work with me, the PAC lobby will be open for you to rehearse your IEs on those days from right after school until 4 pm.  You can sign-up for a time with me by scrolling to the bottom of the sign-up sheet, linked HERE.

5. You should work on your IE piece at least 3 times between going over your ballots with Struiks and our mandatory meeting on 4/15.  At least one of those times should be with your coach.

You all had a great Region competition - keep up that focus, momentum, and productive work so that you put yourself in the best spot you can to have a fun and successful State competition as well!

Feel free to email me with any questions - appreciate you all!

Free UHMTA tickets to see and support Tessa!

 Hi everyone!

As you know, our very own Tessa Osborne is a Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards FINALIST for best actress in her role of Miss Honey.

Tessa and the other nominees will perform during the awards ceremony before winners are announced and our school has a block of free tickets available to students who were involved in Matilda!

The awards show is formal - so a great excuse to get dressed up! - and is held at the Eccles Theatre in downtown Salt Lake.  This awards show will be on April 12th at 7 pm.  If you want to attend, you'll need to coordinate your own ride because we will not be taking a bus.

I'd love for as many people to attend as possible - obviously to support Tessa and also to see some awesome performances - it's such a cool event!

If you are going to attend (and I hope you do!) please sign up on the Google Sheet linked HERE.  We have a total of 28 tickets available, so they are reserved on a first come, first serve basis.  If you are going to attend with one of our free tickets, you MUST sign up on this sheet by 3pm on Monday, 3/31.

For those that do sign up, keep an eye out next week for more information about coordinating plans to meet beforehand, eat, and pick up tickets. :)

Thanks!

Murder Mystery Dinner Sign-Ups

 Hi everyone,

We are SO excited for our Murder Mystery shows on Friday!  While Kason's parents are taking care of LOTS of the food elements for the shows, we are in need of parent/guardian support to supply some items and to help prepare the food (this will be done in the foods room on the 2nd floor in the main building - room 2410).

As a reminder, you are eligible for reimbursement for your purchases - we just need extra hands to pick things up and get them here :)

Access the sign-up sheet for food and help needs HERE.  If you are able to help or supply food, please sign-up - we couldn't do this awesome improv experience every year without your help.

For reimbursement - have your student drop off a paper copy of your receipt to the folder on the Little Theatre callboard.  On the back of your receipt, please include your full name, phone number, and address.

Thank you and appreciate you all!

Final Region 2025 Competition Team!

Congratulations to all of you and your hard work these past few weeks!  I was very pleased to see so much growth on everyone's region piece and can't wait to keep working with you the next two weeks to get things ready for competition. I wish we could take all of you to compete.  It was really difficult to make some of the cuts needed, but I wanted to let those who are not on this final list know that you are still a part of team and valued!  It came down to fractions of points- please reach out for individual feedback as desired. Even if not on this list, you are welcome to attend region and cheer on the team/help as needed.  If you do not wish to do so, please just let me know by next Tuesday (3/11) and I will remove you from the excusal list.

KEEP GRADES UP STARTING NOW!

Also, below are important date reminders AND your group numbers for those moving on to the competitive rounds.  You should use these instead of your names and school in the slate starting tomorrow- do NOT use your names and school at competition and PLEASE practice slates ahead of time.
