Dress Rehearsal Notes!

Here are some thoughts from tonight's run and a few specific notes...

Overall, HAVE FUN!  Don't be in your head... enjoy the process and if a moment doesn't go as wanted originally, let it go and give in to the next moment on stage.  Be in the MOMENT on stage! You're all doing fantastic, so believe in yourself.

Find the light!  Make sure you are always having your face in the light.

ACT 1

Shoutouts to Parker for having GREAT comedic timing!  Word of caution, don't spike out of nowhere - the anger over them not being hitched yet seems very heightened with no growth to there.  Don't throw the shovel cause it's a bit too harsh.

Sydney was  a STAND-OUT tonight for me!  Great character and timing and genuinely engaged in each scene - loved watching you today cause you stole the show and really took the notes I gave you to heart.  One thing to watch is making surety cheat out ALWAYS! Reminder: "Name of THE star!"

Jordan - awesome and honest reactions today!  Watch your diction cause it was rough in both Kansas and Oz... really take time to taste and experience words.

Nate - some really, really nice reactions to things today!  I love what you've chosen to do so often with your ax.  We all believe in you - believe in yourself!  You have come so far and are doing fabulously!  Keep working on biting your words and then having reactions bigger when a focal point on stage.

Kenna - CHEAT OUT. :)  I know, that's the bane of your existence.  Think of this - you get to decide how much the audience sees and engages with you.  Your character is AWESOME - if you nail down cheating out and diction, you can be a standout or me.  Diction is still really rough on first lines in each scene.  Really bite the LOW tones... when you run to your rock, let it be your "safe zone."

Heather - really great vocal variation, as always - a little more bite in Oz scenes.  Way to keep Gultch scenes going overall.  Make sure things are discovered... this is the first time you think of Poppies to get the girl, for example.

Ensemble:  Getting better, but still PROJECT MORE!  I want everyone to hear you out there!!! Your characters are so great - seriously everyone is doing great with character there.  Make Munchkinland WAY bigger in movement to match the bigness of those dresses.  Shoutout to Lucas for massive improvement and to Giselle for ALWAYS having character! Oh, and Abbey Coleman... GREAT diction! ;)

Trees - nice facial reactions! Can one of YOU pre-place the oil can?  Decide and let me know who!

Crows - Be louder!  Great, great character and much better bending and twisting.

Poppies - Analisa had glitter in her hair... can you ALL?!  It looked amazing! Way to be louder - keep it up!  Remember.... dreamy happy.  MOST are doing this, but you ALL need to ALL the time!

PLEASE, fix the end of ACT I.... PLEASE?!

ACT 2

Can backstage singers up their game a bit more?

Jaren - still looking mad... save it for the Winkies!

Lindsey and Dylan - come further to the front to look at the cloud with Dorothy's name so you can yell lines out from the front.

ENSEMBLE:  Lines in general, but really as Ozians, when you curve, HAVE to curve outward to include ALL the audience... It's like cheating out.  You are cutting off half the audience.  Also, PLEASE don't talk back stage!!! Go out and say what you need to, then slip back in... or WAIT to say it. Great reactions in balloon scene!

PACING!!!! Pick it up overall in this act!

Emma - don't break if Heather gets in your face... really nice reactions to other dumb Winkies!

Lyndsey Nelson - GREAT BA face during Winkies time.

Hide the limbs better....

Freak out with the sparks - be real in your reactions ALL on stage!

Kenna - new tactic on "telegraph line."

OVERALL - amazig job today!  I'll see y'all in a few hours and I'm stoked for our run!  The kids will LOVE it!  Let's conquer character, projection, and transitions tomorrow! :)

Thanks for being an incredible cast!!!!!! :)
